Christophe Plantin
Founder & Chief Craftsmanship Officer

Christophe Plantin is the visionary behind our uncompromising commitment to typographic excellence. In 1555, he established the Plantin Press in Antwerp, quickly growing it into Europe’s foremost printing house. Under his stewardship, the press produced over 2,000 titles—including the celebrated multi-volume Biblia Regia—and set new standards for editorial precision, page design, and typographic artistry.

A master of both the technical and aesthetic dimensions of publishing, Plantin pioneered innovations in ink formulation, typecasting, and quality control. His insistence on rigorous proofing processes and finely balanced page layouts laid the groundwork for every book we produce today.

At Plantin, Defoe & Franklin Publishing, Christophe Plantin’s legacy guides our design studio and production workflows: we honor his exacting craftsmanship in every font choice, every margin calculation, and every meticulously proofed line of text. His spirit remains central to our mission of delivering beautifully crafted books—from the printed page to the digital screen.

Daniel Defoe
Founder & Chief Narrative Officer

Daniel Defoe was a pioneering force in early-18th-century literature and massmarket publishing. Beginning his career as a political pamphleteer and merchant, he broke new ground in 1719 with the publication of Robinson Crusoe—widely regarded as the first English novel to captivate a broad readership. His agile prose, keen eye for human drama, and prolific output (including Moll Flanders and numerous essays) helped transform reading into a popular pastime, fueling an unprecedented boom in literacy and storytelling.

Today, as our Chief Narrative Officer, Daniel Defoe’s legacy guides every stage of our editorial process. We honor his commitment to clear, engaging prose by partnering with authors to refine voice, structure, and pacing—ensuring every ebook we publish carries the same sense of adventure, insight, and accessibility that made Defoe’s works timeless.

Benjamin Franklin
Founder & Chief Innovation Officer

Benjamin Franklin embodies the spirit of innovation that drives our company forward. In 1729, he took over the Pennsylvania Gazette, transforming it into one of colonial America’s most influential newspapers. He went on to author and publish the wildly popular Poor Richard’s Almanack—a pioneering blend of practical wisdom and wit that reached tens of thousands of readers each year.

A true polymath, Franklin pioneered advancements in typecasting, paper manufacturing, and distribution networks, ensuring that printed ideas could circulate quickly and affordably. His experiments with printing ink and his establishment of one of America’s first efficient postal systems demonstrated an entrepreneur’s eye for both quality and scale.

Today, as our Chief Innovation Officer, Benjamin Franklin’s legacy inspires our pursuit of cutting-edge solutions: from AI-driven layout algorithms to interactive ebook enhancements and seamless global distribution. His commitment to accessible knowledge and his knack for marrying practicality with creativity remain at the heart of everything we do at Plantin, Defoe & Franklin Publishing.
